Boulevard House -

A re-working of a simple design seeking opportunity for elaboration & expression.

We worked to provide -

A refinement of the interior design from drafted plans

In being asked to select interior finishes for a renovation to an existing dwelling and new double storey extension, we considered how form was to be rendered in material and colour.

Taking the base design layout, we investigated opportunities to explore volume, spatial integration and joinery, to enhance the existing qualities of space.

Concrete stairs were exaggerated and staggered to become a plinth for fireplace and television. Also providing a temporary space to sit before blending in to double height shelving.

The first floor was cut back to allow a bookcase to extend beyond the ground ceiling and become an upstairs balustrade. Windows were enlarged or defined by the surrounding joinery to sharpen the reading of built form and void.

Kitchen joinery was integrated in to a staircase through a selection of timber veneer, which was then repeated in joinery detail.
